NO COMMENT is the personal exhibition that marks the welcome and desired return of the Roman painter-director Sergio Lombardino to the La Rocca Gallery and to Turin.

His paintings stem from a volcanic creativity and a deep knowledge of painting and restoration techniques, filtered through his years of experience as a television director for the LA7 network.

A metropolitan painter, as he likes to define himself, he draws inspiration from everyday life, capturing moments of the present that he transfers onto canvas or cardboard using and blending various techniques such as fresco, collage and decollage, tearing, acrylics, and enamels.

Just like in the video post-production console, he retraces the history of art. He cuts, decomposes, reassembles, tears, and paints his “Drop-outs.” Material works that draw from the past and present, freezing objects of collective memory in a “still image.” He revisits Pop Art through a mix of techniques and references to masters of Informal and New Dada.

Painting is his fixation, as is the “lettering” that characterizes his recent works. Like a modern Pasquino, he sends out ironic and irreverent messages like his NOs.

Contrary to this, Lombardino defines his Bi-paintings, which display the word “ON,” with the clear message to stay switched on, attentive, and critical, in order to say NO or at most NO COMMENT.

XEL

"DREAM"
personale di XEL

Free entry

The desire to tell the story of Xel was born from the exhibition collaboration of the last few years.
On display, a selection of his most representative works, which tell of his artistic evolution and his unique style.
Acrylics on canvas recall his beginnings as a “writer”, when a spray can in his backpack wandered around at night to “tag” the walls of the suburbs with his smuggling art.
Tags that are not random but the result of his great love for “lettering” from which new three-dimensional characters are born.
His Xel signature declined in different shapes and patterns is the first trait recognizable by street-art insiders.
The evolution of lettering does not take place as a pure exercise in style, it comes from a careful and at the same time critical look at society and the reality that surrounds it.

Street art works are therefore characterized by a strong visual impact and an immediate artistic language.
Primary colors dominate the large backgrounds, as is the primary urgency for Xel to address social issues dear to him, wild urbanization, inequalities, the transformation of the world of work, the lack of future for the new generations.
Stylized chicks with open beaks await something that may never arrive, factories whose chimneys no longer smoke, vertical villages where nature struggles to find a place, are the subjects that characterize his works.
Important themes that, in Xel’s works, are able to involve the viewer in a unique visual and emotional experience, permeated with poetry and lightness.

The step from the large mural to the canvas is inevitable, and underlines the desire for a closer and more intimate contact with the public than he does.
Acrylics on paper stand out for their originality and for their ability to create suggestive atmospheres, they tell of a suspended time, that of the pandemic, in which houses and even the Mole Antonelliana, symbol of our city, become containers of dreams, caskets open to the world that show what is most precious.
The desire to keep dreaming and making your dreams come true becomes an imperative.
